Parents & Kids have camped

A 3 days camp for you to spend quality time with your daughter in nature.

When was the last time you put aside some time for just you and your daughter? The Father and Daughter camp offers a safe, distraction-free environment to spend 1 on 1 time together, which is so important yet often so rare in today’s busy world.
Our purpose-built facility in the Byron Bay hinterland is a beautiful, natural and safe place for you to slow down, connect and gain a better understanding of her needs as she grows into a young woman.

What you can expect from the Father & Daughter Camp

Strengthen the bond
Three days of real time together, away from the noise. Shared stories, shared meals, shared moments around the fire. The kind of time that builds something she’ll carry with her for years.
Prepare for what's next
The years ahead get harder. Camp gives you and your daughter a foundation to stand on as she moves toward her teenage years, together, as your relationship evolves.
A community of women and mentors
Your daughter is held by a team of facilitators, mentors, and women who know how to listen, connect with, and care for every girl with respect.
Genuine connection with other fathers
You won’t be on the sidelines. Camp gives you space to connect with other fathers walking the same path, around the fire and out in nature. The friendships that come out of this often last for years.
Try something new
Camp offers your daughter age-appropriate challenges that stretch her, build courage and confidence, and show her what she’s capable of.
Honoured for who she is
Your daughter is honoured for the gifts, talents, and spirit she brings. By the end of camp, she knows she has been seen, by her father, by her community, and by herself.

Bond with your daughter and other families.

Build lasting memories across an incredible weekend in nature where your child will meet others, play games, and have a chance to connect with you without the distractions of every day life.
The camp is packed with unique and engaging activities, as well as time set aside to support dads to think about what they can do to best support their daughters. Your daughter will absolutely love the undivided attention (with no devices in sight) as we light fires, make damper, share stories and play games.

Meet The
Head of Camps

Karim Kaufman, Head of Camps, has been part of the ROPI community for over 25 years, starting when he attended a camp himself as a young man. Now a youth worker, mentor, and educator, he has spent his career paying that forward, leading young people through the same experiences that shaped him.
Karim works at the intersection of men’s psychology, wilderness therapy, and rites of passage, and has personally guided thousands of young people and their families through ROPI’s camp programs. As a father of two, the connections he watches form on camp mean more to him than ever.

Everything you need to know before you book. If your question isn’t here, reach out directly.
Father Daughter is for girls aged 7 to 11, attending with their dad or another significant man in their life.

Three days in nature with your daughter, away from the distractions of everyday life. The camp is packed with unique and engaging activities, alongside time set aside to support dads to think about how they can best support their daughters.

Your daughter will love the undivided attention with no devices in sight, as we light fires, make damper, share stories and play games. She’ll be held by a team of facilitators, mentors and women who know how to listen to and care for every girl with respect.

All of our camps and programs are completely non-denominational and are not associated with any religion. We welcome everyone to our programs.

Our camps are held at our beautiful purpose built facility in the Byron Bay hinterland, on the North East coast of NSW.

The closest airports are the Gold Coast and Ballina, both around an hour’s drive from the site. We usually find the Gold Coast offers cheaper fares as it’s larger and has more flights.

As we’re in a regional area, public transport isn’t an option. If you’d like to carpool from the airport, please let us know and we’ll connect you with others also travelling. Alternatively, an Uber from the airport costs around $150 each way.

Full directions are sent to you before camp.

We start at 3pm on the Friday and finish at 2pm on the Sunday (NSW time). It really matters that we begin together, so please plan to arrive with a bit of buffer.

This is a weekend of camping in tents, either your own or one hired from us. Everyone sleeps in tents rather than vehicles or caravans, and we ask that you stay on site for the duration.

One of the most powerful parts of camp is stepping away from screens entirely. Without the pull of notifications, conversations go deeper and the children settle into being present with each other.

We ask that phones, watches and other devices are left at home or in your car for the duration of camp. We’ll have staff on site taking photographs, which we share with you afterwards.

We’re off grid, with composting toilets, solar power and limited showering facilities. Many people find biodegradable moist towelettes handy for freshening up. There’s also a watering hole on the property you may be able to swim in, weather permitting.
Yes, the weekend is fully catered including tea and coffee, and we accommodate dietary requirements. As we supply all food, please don’t bring other food or snacks unless for medical reasons.

Torch, water bottle, sun protection including hat and sunscreen, insect repellent for mozzies and midges, sturdy walking shoes, clothing for the outdoors, warm clothes including a raincoat, and for cool nights a warm coat and beanie. Toiletries and a towel. Swimwear is optional.

Please don’t bring sporting equipment or games.

Byron hinterland weather can differ from the Byron Bay forecast, and the mountains are known for making their own weather, so please pack for all conditions.

As a rough guide, May days are typically 22 to 24°C dropping to around 11 to 13°C overnight. October days are around 24 to 26°C dropping to 14 to 16°C. Nights can feel cold around the fire, so bring warm layers.

We send a specific forecast out closer to camp so you can pack accordingly.

Our camps are tech free and there’s limited reception on the property, but our staff can get a message to participants in an emergency, and we’ll supply an emergency contact number prior to camp.
Yes, we offer a 6 month payment plan you can apply automatically at checkout.

You can read our full terms and conditions here: https://ritesofpassageinstitute.org/terms-conditions/

We strongly encourage domestic travel insurance to cover you if you need to cancel or postpone for reasons outside your control. Policies can be as affordable as $40 to $100 and typically cover airfares, accommodation and program costs. One option worth exploring is Insure and Go, whose Silver Level cover includes up to $10,000 with a $100 excess: https://www.insureandgo.com.au

Please email us at info@ritesofpassageinstitute.org, we’re happy to help!
