Who attends these trainings?

Our participants come from all walks of life — educators, parents, coaches, therapists, counsellors, wellbeing practitioners, community leaders, facilitators — anyone drawn to holding meaningful transitions for others. The training will benefit anyone wanting to deepen their self-awareness, become a better leader, or contribute to positive and meaningful change. It’s especially relevant for those working with or supporting others through growth, change, transition, or challenge.

Level 2 is designed for those who have already completed Level 1 or the Online Leadership Training and are ready to go deeper in their facilitation practice.

Level 1 (LT1) is our foundational training — it introduces the Rites of Passage framework, the theory and principles behind Rites of Passage work, and the design of transformational experiences. It’s the starting point for anyone new to Rites of Passage, as well as an opportunity for consolidation for anyone with previous experience.

Level 2 (LT2) is our advanced facilitation training, designed for those who have already completed Level 1 (or the Online Leadership Training) and want to deepen their practice. LT2 focuses on the craft of facilitation itself — how to hold space, work with group dynamics, and lead Rites of Passage experiences with confidence.

Level 1 is a prerequisite for Level 2.

No formal certification is required to attend. On completion, you’ll receive a certificate of your training with us that many participants find valuable to share within their own professional context.

Our trainings are held at our beautiful site in the Byron Bay hinterland, on the North East coast of NSW.

The closest airports are the Gold Coast and Ballina, both around an hour’s drive from the site. We usually find the Gold Coast offers cheaper fares as it’s larger and has more flights.

As we’re in a regional area, public transport is limited. If you’d like to carpool from the airport, please let us know and we’ll connect you with others also travelling. Alternatively, an Uber from the airport costs around $150 each way.

Our trainings are camping-based. You’re welcome to bring your own tent, or hire a full camp kit from us that includes a tent, sleeping bag, liner, pillow, and stretcher. You’re also welcome to sleep in your vehicle if you prefer, though we ask that you remain on site for the duration of the training.

If you’re travelling from afar, you’re welcome to arrive the night before — just let us know, and we ask you to arrive between 4-6pm on the evening prior.

The training runs Thursday to Sunday, starting at 11am on Thursday and finishing at 3pm on Sunday (NSW time).
We’re off grid — we have composting toilets, solar power, and limited showering facilities. We recommend bringing biodegradable moist towelettes for ease of freshening up. There’s also a beautiful watering hole on the property where you’re welcome to swim.
Yes — our trainings are fully catered, and we accommodate dietary requirements (tea and coffee included).
Phone reception on site is limited. We recommend giving your emergency contacts our phone number so we can pass on any urgent messages during your time with us.

We understand that sometimes things happen. If you need to make changes more than 12 weeks before the program, we’ll charge a $50 administration fee. Between 6-12 weeks before, changes are subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to 10% of the total program cost. Within 6 weeks of the program, we’re unable to offer refunds or credit transfers unless we can rebook the space with another participant.

You can read our full terms and conditions here: https://ritesofpassageinstitute.org/terms-conditions/

We strongly encourage you to take out domestic travel insurance to cover you in the event you need to cancel or postpone for reasons outside of your control. Policies can be as affordable as $35-70 and typically cover airfares, accommodation, and program costs. One option worth exploring is Insure and Go — their Silver Level cover includes up to $10,000 for accommodation, airfares, and training costs with a $100 excess: https://www.insureandgo.com.au
